Snacking in comfort – a Tyrolean philosophy of philosophy of life
Lush meadows, majestic mountains and picturesque pastures surround the Guesthouse Bichl in Niederthai in the centre of the Oetztal Valley. Here at 1,600 m you will find the perfect place to settle down and relax.
Its 600 peaks including 256 thousand meter-high mountains make the Oetztal Valley one of the most diverse hiking regions in Austria. The large number of Alpine huts in the area makes hiking a particularly special experience here.
Cuisine in Tyrol
The Bichl snack station has served as a resting point for hikers walking from hut to hut for many years. Traditional Oetztal specialities and Tyrolean delicacies are served here. A hearty snack of home-made bread, bacon and cheese is certain to recharge your batteries for the next stage of the journey. Pastries and home-made cakes are also on the menu.
With a lot of love and attention
Foods made in the Oetztal Valley, including home-made jams and honey, are also used in the dishes served at the snack station. These include herbs collected by the hosts during their herb walks. Andrea and Hansjörg are aware of the medicinal properties of these plants and know how their various flavours can best be used in cooking. A lengthy meal or snack at an Alpine hut is all part of the Tyrolean philosophy of life. Eating, drinking and socialising in a cosy ambience are taken very seriously here in Bichl. Finding time for yourself is the motto of the two hosts. The dishes are prepared with great attention – as you can tell by their exquisite taste.
The Bichl snack station is located close to the highest waterfall in Tyrol, the Stuibenfall, and can be accessed via various footpaths such as the Umhausen high-altitude trail, the route to the Narrenkogl and the Niederthai road.
